I think North West Tonight won it a few years ago. Now that was a worthy winner!

You have to wonder though if these awards just get picked out of a hat. Look North from Newcastle bored me senseless when I used to watch it in my uni days. Everything about it was boring and tedious. What was their millenium programming? The Millenium Poll? Oh please... North West Tonight did nice things looking back at the past and the future which were interesting - Newcastle just shoved some clips of some famous people from that great region of 'The North East and Cumbria' and asked you to vote on it.

Oh and I distinctly remember them doing a feature about a 'Millenium Vicar'.

Shurly with quality like that, this award can't be the first this year....

The panel judges did mention that the 'imaginative' adaption of the generic set did play a part in its glorious victory!
