BBC BALLOONS Posted Wed Apr 12 13:43:50 BST 2000 by JOHNNY BANANA

I WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY IN THE SOUTH EAST WATCHES "NEWSROOM SOUTH EAST" AT SIX THIRTY. NOW IF THEY DO I WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY ELSE HAS NOTICED THAT THE LOGO FLYING NEAR CANARY WHARF IS DAMAGED NEAR THE CAPTION LIKE WHEN A VIDEO TAPE GETS CHEWED UP ANYBODY ELSE NOTICED THIS

It's been like that for a while now - I remember seeing that at xmas (I noticed as it wasn't the xmas logo)... you'd think they'd fixed it by now!

I find it increasingly difficult to fathom the usage of the balloon idents. For example, why did the Felixstowe ident which was quite common in the first six months then disappear for two years, and then suddenly reappear quite recently? And then there is one particular ident I've only ever seen once, flying over East London, for Children in Need in 1997.

And please, no more 'peoples balloons'.

People's balloons? explain

The four new idents they introduced at the end of March, showing a carnival going on, a market, kids skateboarding and, most bizarrely, a bloke bungee jumping out of the balloon. Don't like them, I'd prefer more landscapes and famous landmarks.

Saw screenshots of them today - Awful - bang goes the nice, civilised, serene idents we expect on BBC ONE - no more of these, but more balloons generally

I quite agree - the "people's balloons" are dreadful. The balloon seems only to be there as an afterthought, and they are nowhere near as good or clever as the previous ones with various bits of the landscape (on some of which the camerawork was very good).

They seem to be turning into either TF1 or France 2 (I forget which, possibly both), who have or have had some poor people-based idents. France 3 with the fish, though has to rank highly as one of my faves.

I don't know, but I do have it on tape. I'll try and post it on my site soon.
