>A sad day...
Yep. I don't know much about the rest of work but I know as far as Hitch-Hikers goes nobody could have done the part better, and you can't do better than that.
He was wonderful on Just A Minute. A sad loss.
I adored Peter's appearances on Just a Minute. With Derek Nimmo and Clement Freud, he was one of the great players.
Very sad to hear to news. Any danger of the beeb repeating Hitch Hiker's Guide as a tribute? Not a chance.
They've just shown (read a month or so ago) Hitch Hikers on BBC Choice ...
Ah. Unhappily, I don't live anywhere that can get any of these fabulous digital anything at the moment - the pipes haven't been layed down under the Irish sea, or something.
I have been in Edinburgh for the last few days though, and have become sucked into UK Play. I look forward to living here and watching repeats for the rest of my days.
I am most upset at this news. Peter Jones was a star, it was always a pleasure to see him on film or TV. He also recorded a voice-over for a student film made by a friend of mine, and he was a charming, lovely man by all accounts.
My favourite memory of him is a clip included on the BBC Video "Making of Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy". He's recording a warm-up speech for an audience gathered at the NFT, to create a laughter track for H-H-G-T-T-G ep 1 - thankfully this process was later aborted. In return for his services, he says, the BBC have promised him a starring role in a TV show... and the warm up video is it! Amazing delivery and timing, quite brilliant.
My main memory of Peter Jones was in The Rag Trade. He was the best thing in it and its always a joy to see him pop up in old British comedy films every so often. To quote my Dad "Bloody Hell ,theyre all going!" Except I think Peters off to The Restaurant at the End of the Universe with a Babel fish in his ear.
