>Best has been done, so how about worst?
UTV's current ones - they've had them since late 1996 and they look soooo dated!
Generic hearts is by far the worst ident in British television history. But the worst of all must be Border's version.
It has wiped any trace of a separate identity away by not having a logo of its own at all. It just has the word Border in italic capitals in the blue outline box with the itv logo underneath.
It's sooo boring. In fact, they should substitute ing for der in the logo.
Generic hearts has to be the worst (especially the one with the kids and the motorway which seems to be the only one HTV possess (apart from when the logo comes in in lines from the sides, which it uses most of the time). The Carlton stations' version is much more stylish.
However, the BBC seem to be leaping on the "bad logo" bandwagon with the new balloon ident, where it just seems to be incidental to the carnival going on. Bring back the clever photoraphy, such as going over the bridge.
The BBC Ballon at the Angel of the North is quite a good one
Worst ITV? The old CENTRAL or CARLTON style ones just before the star came along. They were in two flat colours and were supposed to look "retro" - It didn't work. Especially bad were the ones for Heart of the Country, which featured the A turning into a tree and a forest magically appearing, anf the one for local news where the A was a radio transmitter.
Special pardon, however, for the one with the drum-beat and the sheep-pen for Emmerdale - viewers will know what I mean
Yes the worst one is the generic hearts. The Granada stations never use them before the news anymore, and they are sometimes never shown in the morning like before This Morning and after the news at around 11am - they always used to show an id here. And the video clip version of the id's are hardly ever seen.
Ah but isn't that just because YTV are too bone idle to bother with'em. And who can blame them, far nicer to have a cup of tea and a scone (IT'S PRONOUNCED SCON IF YOU'RE READING BOWDEN!!!! ;)
But you're right. Granada take any opportunity to avoid having to play them. No continuity before the news, scrap them at Xmas (what's the betting YTV have a 'groovy' Easter ident lined up as well?) and use the local ones before regional programmes. With Carlton, SMG and UTV refusing to use them, LWT and Channel bastardising them and Granada dropping them at every opportunity, isn't it time to do what huntsmen always do to the lame old hound and shoot them in the head? It'll be kinder for all concerned...
>(IT'S PRONOUNCED SCON IF YOU'RE READING BOWDEN!!!! ;)
I agree. Pronounced as in 'gone'.

Sorry for using "Northern Ireland" when the correct term is Norn Iron, so it is, like.
I agree - SCON
Am I the only person left with no regional identity at all? I suppose I'm Midlands/South-East/Welsh - is that a BBC news region?
>Am I the only person left with no regional identity at all? I suppose I'm Midlands/South-East/Welsh - is that a BBC news region?
Not at the moment, but if the BBC ever think they could save money by creating such a region, they might just do it.
the worst has to be scottish and grampians grampian had a excellent logo with the flag invented in 1998 then it was ereplaced with shitty boxes wow also the CARLTON small t looks old they should renew this i bet when they asked the graphic designers to come up with a new look they forgot and just added a star and they dumb owner of them liked it - silly man
