Well I'm a bit confused as to what happened to my post on the same said subject - my point was, that is the generic ITV ident fad crumbling?

And why LWT, a company which has always played the ITV card very strongly...

Its better than the generic logo, but not a patch on the one they had before that. Too cluttered.

LWT have never liked to have many different idents. They like just 1 so they combined them into just 1.

I'm surprised Granada have let LWT go and do its own thing. Anyway, its better than the previous ones - they appeared to be too contrived.

LWT have changed their logo? News to me. Their website hasn't changed or anything. Shows how much I watch ITV these days, 2 years ago or so I would have noticed this sort of thing straight away. Anywhere I can look at this??

Thanks Tony. So, with LWT having gone their own way, Carlton, SMG and UTV refusing to use the generic idents this is, as Andrew says, the beginning of the end for the generic idents. The LWT one doesn't look London-specific, so maybe Granada will spread this new look to all their channels? The northern ones have always been a bit half-hearted in their support for the [itv] idents, not using them at holiday times or before regional programmes, and not even before the news now (they just go straight to it). If Granada does make this decision, then only the United channels, Border and Channel will be left using them. So it looks like this little experiment will be even less successful than the last attempt. If there's going to be several variants of the ITV generic ident, what's the point in having one?

Since Monday 27th March, Granada have been showing a new selection of bumpers, one for each day of the week which still have the [itv] and heart symbol in them, so I think they are unlikely to drop the [itv] theme.

Yes, this could the deathknell for the generics. I heard a while ago that the generics were really a stopgap while the current mergers are going on. I understand United will at some point incorporate the UN logo in with the regional ones and, as having three logos on the same screen will look crowded and is bound to confuse anyone, the itv ident looks doomed.

The other fact is that, unlike Carlton and Granada, whose regional companies' websites come under the same name (www.carlton.com and www.g-wizz.net), United's are all separate as they are banking on the brand names of Meridian, Anglia and HTV. This is also the reason why United's break bumpers carry both the regional and itv logos, as opposed to just the itv one.

Does anyone know where I can view a Realplayer file of the new Scottish and Grampian idents by the way?

Preston?

Or perhaps, given the state of the technology they use, Newcastle?

I think the New one is better it is in true LWT style bold & 3d but it's a shame that they have already got rid of the original hearts ident & this makes it their shortest lived logo ever

I ALSO FORGOT TO MENTION THAT ON SUNDAY 9TH APRIL 2000 AFTER A COMEDY PET PROGRAMME FROM AMERICA THEY USED THE ORIGNAL HEARTS IDENT FOR THE "COMING NEXT ON LWT" BIT BUT THEN WHEN THE NEXT PROGRAMME CAME ON IT WAS NEVER SEEN AGAIN DID ANYBODY ELSE SEE THIS
