... was it a Pixies parody Chris Morris did?

The thing is, there was a copy of Select in 1991 that featured something about someone doing wind-ups of both The Pixies and also ringing up Steve Wright and taking the piss out of him. Was that an early CM stunt?

Yes, the Motherbanger song was a brilliant Pixies send up, but no, CM did not phone up Steve Wright. Morris was in Wayne Carr mode and along with the chinnywag chapter, discussed mini CDs and the Polish ice hat melting. Cockadoodledoo!

One of them can be found at http://web.ukonline.co.uk/soundfoundation/ The other is probably in the midst of one of Dave's drunken stupors. Neil will have a copy of it, though.

There was a phone call windup on the flexidisc, but it wasn't to Steve Wright, it was to Piers Morgan, erstwhile editor of the News Of The World, while he was still the Sun's showbiz hack. Morris pretended to be both Paul McGuinness (U2 manager) and Bono, in a ludicrously unconvincing Irish accent that the cretin Morgan swallowed whole.
