#"Now is the time to yield a sigh..."
Hmm... enigmatic Barrettesque silence...
I frigging well hope not. I only just found the damn thing 2 days ago, spent 6 hours reading through it. Gaaahhhh!
Why is this forum still here?
If the mudhole site is closed, why are we still able to post?
This whole thing is just so odd...
I wonder that as well.
Will anyone say anything?
ROLLS UP RADIO TIMES INTO A FUNNEL AND SHOUTS THROUGH IT TOWARDS THE HEAVENS: Helllllllooooooooo??? Anybody up there???????? Why have you forsaken us????
We've had to close SOTCAA and NotBBC due to a complaint... sorry, we don't want to go into details here.
?
So it's serious then? Shit a brick... bugger it. I'm off to hang myself...
Let the wild speculation begin....
Er, no thanks...
You're all being sued by all the fine comedians of the world for giving them cheek?
Well, if anyone could mail me a .zip file of it...
Where's that bloody rope?
Yoakum?
This has turned into one of those emergency broadcast "continual unravelling of events" type things you get on telly when something big happens.
I'm joined now by Peter OImNotTypingItAgain. Peter - the website is shut. The forum remains. A cryptic comment from the Webmaster. What do you think is happening?
Mr Griffiths, you're standing in a news grave!
I'm absolutely devastated. Seriously.
I've enjoyed every second that I've spent on SOTCAA, even when reding bits that I disagreed with (and even the bit that took the piss out of me!).
Someone please pass on my regards to Rob and the Corpses... please get in touch, becuase the free issues offer still stands if you're reading.
Although I have no doubt that I shall be continuing to nose around the forum for quite some time yet, in the hope of spotting a distant glimmer of good news somewhere on the horizon...
Why did they take the laughter away, Mummy? Why?
(To the tune of "The End" by The Beatles.)
And in the end,
The bullshit analytical essay crap you make,
Is equal to the bullshit analytical essay crap...
You take.

I'm being flippant cos I'm in shock, a bit. SOTCAA is the best written and most fascinating web site it's ever been my pleasure to happen across. And the forum is populated by (on the whole!) intelligent funny people, a million miles away from most of the other interactive guff you find stinking up the world wide web. I imagine the forum remains cos its on Janet, but without the SOTCAA site to provoke and delight us, it's become a sort of support group!
Media Anarchist to the end - is there no way that elements could be incorporated into a new site somewhere else?
I can't understand why the whole site has been forcibly closed on the basis of (presumably) one bit...
Rob - will you ever be able to give us any information?
WHY HAS THOU FORSAKEN US?!?!
...of complaint from the BBC and....no, I cannot reveal any more.
Go on
Well, it's pure wild unabated speculation.
But...
... I can reveal that ...
... I don't know what I'm talking about
doh!
Don't let that stop you making up wild accusations and rumours of your own though.

"This has turned into one of those emergency broadcast "continual unravelling of events" type things you get on telly when something big happens."
I think we need a celebrity comment to qualify for something like that - preferably not Theakston...
Rob reversed his car over a garden gnome belonging to Greg Dyke, they exchanged insurance details, Greg went home and did a quick web search and stumbled across the notbbc domain, and launched the most extensive legal campaign since Chris Tarrent sued his mother for passing him the smug gene.
I'm going to sound like something out of bloody Star Trek now, but...
...some things are bigger than they seem. All of the regular visitors to SOTCAA were and are(I assume) united by a common belief in what the site stands/stood for, and if that's so, then this common ground is too precious to throw away on the basis of someone with too much time, money and legal knowhow on their hands trying to silence like-minded people. Which is why I'm suggesting that we should all stay in contact - myself, Mr G, Peter O'H, Ailie, Bent Halo, Jon, Justin, Jason, John!, Suiii, Kinder Surprise, Subbes, PJ, Sam D, Arma, The Corpses, Rob, Simon Harries(the tape's on its way, by the way!), Steve Berry, Mogwai,Ewar Woowar, Simon Adebsi - hell, even gas bottle and the clown if they're up for it. Let's do something positive with this situation.
Maybe someone tipped them off?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Youakum........
It would be good to keep in touch. The Forumwriter's meeting strand has become too unwieldy to take in. Anyone up for a frank and free exchange of email addresses?
I'll get the ball rolling. Here's one of mine: [email protected]
Anyone interested in the meeting, e-mail me. I'll do all I can to help sort it out.
As for speculation... JANET is particularly sensitive about what can and can't be published on the network. Any reasonable complaint could have seen the site's removal.
I only discovered the site a couple of weeks ago, but spent several hours reading it upon discovery. As someone said earlier, this forum does seem to have attracted far fewer trouble-makers, time wasters and, to use a word beloved by SOTCAA themselves, plebs than most interweb forumthingies.
I am still hopeful that this is a temporary situation... Corpses, Rob S, is there ANY chance that the site will return?

NOW I'M SAD.
oh its semmes that an ident was the downfall
i am sad
sasd
i will misdfiss you all
I don't want to go into details folks, but speculation isn't helpful... so please try and avoid that so I can keep the TV forum open. Thanks for the support though...cheers
Whoever they are, they're bastards. This is easily one of the best sites I've ever visited. For God's sake leak your side of the story to Media Guardian or something.
It wouldn't be helpful, Mogwai...
I know this sounds tacky, but rob, thanks for the site, and I hope that The Corpses and yourself can get a new venture off the ground sooner rather than later.
And I hope that whoever made the complaint gets the smug smile wiped off their stupid face in spectacular fashion.
Rob's right about not speculating about things - it'd be the nail in the coffin if the forum was shut down - it's the only thing i right to (well, one of two things - but the other's only got 4 other people on it). I've never seen any other sites with intelligent, thoughtful and witty chat. And i don't think i will either.
Dear lord. Rob... we're going to ask questions about this, because we care about the site and its contents. Maybe the speculation would best be taken somewhere else, but it's natural to ask questions.
Yay, a tv forum e-group. Another one to sign up for!
"You have been BANNED from joining this e-group"?
what the fudge...?
I originally came across this site, looking for a new haunt as the C4 Reach4 forum was disappearing down the pan.
What I found was loads of well-written stuff, (espically the Edit News and Archive Review), and of course, the forum.
The fact that the whole thing has been closed is sad news and (dare I say it) another blow to the net as a tool for free speech.
Please Rob, if yourself and the Corpses ever get a new site going, let me know.
In the meantime we should be keeping in touch - anyone and everyone here is welcome to contact me at>

(Looks like the meet will be turning into a wake).
WE WILL ALL STICK TOGETHER NO MATTER WHETHER YOUR EVIL OR NOT
gas bottle i knoew you would come back to help us

I WILL FIND OUT THE ONE RESPONSIBLE AND MARK MY WORDS THEY WILL BE GASSED AND THEREFORE NE MORE EVIL THAN ANY OF US PUT TOGETHER.
CLOWN I SUSPECT THE IDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. IDENTS ARE TAKING OVER THE WORLD AND MUST BE STOPPED. HOWEVER I BELIEVE THE UGLY FACE ON THE BLUE GAS BOTTLE IDENT MAY BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ATROCITY.
NELE MORRESEY IS EVIL
GAS BOTTLE IDENT IS EVIL
WE MUST CLUB TOGETHER NOW BEAT THIS AND STAY IN THIS FOURUMN
Don't forget that the Corpses were hinting darkly that the end could well be nigh only a couple of weeks ago. Clearly this has been brewing for a while now...
Well, I'm upset. SOTCAA was the best website I've ever seen, apart from freenudehollywood.com, and I don't think it should be allowed to pass away in silence. OK so Rob doesn';t want any speculation, but we could all at least carry on posting here and keep alive the spirit of SOTCAA, or at any rate prevent it from just becoming a forum for bloody ident fans.
I bet that was it, Tyne Tees objected to critical discussion of their new logo. Why did you people have to ruin it for the rest of us?
Good luck to The Corpses, whatever they're up to.
Jesus, what a mess.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the site too.
Can't help think I'll get a little bit more work done now its gone. But its terrible news.
Hey, if we don't actually KNOW the identity of the complainant, then surely it won't be illegal if we state malign wishes towards them?
Even though TJ missed me off his list (I'm not bitter...) I'd love to keep in touch with you all.

FYI Tyne Tees Television 'welcome' debate about their service.
I also know, from bitter experience myself, that there is nothing worse than having someone complain about your site in the way that has happened here.
It's happened to me - not on such a grand scale as has happened here.
For everyone involved in SOTCAA I would like to say this - it may be offline now, but a lot of people out there loved what you did and will miss it enormously. This is an achievement to be proud of and I'm sure everyone is.
>Hey, if we don't actually KNOW the identity of the complainant, then surely it won't be illegal if we state malign wishes towards them?
The libel laws in this country are so warped that it probably is.
I do enjoy posting here and sharing opinions with everyone, but I would rather have the site than the forum if I was forced to choose. What a site it was... if only it had been a matter of just taking down one page or something <sigh>. I don't really bother with The Onion or any other comedy websites, but with sotcaa every update was a real good treat, mmm. Bastards, whoever they are.
This was posted earlier on the Cook'd and Bomb'd messageboard by someone who didn't actually like the SOTCAA site. It seems that some people, particularly those on the douglas adams board, could learn a lot from it:
>How can it justifiably be taken offline >when all that hardcore porn stays >online?!?!?!
>What the hell could they have possibly
>done to deserve that?!?!
>So if you want to read about comedy by some >supposedly
>funny guys - you can't...
>But if you wanna see guys and girls eating
>(censored) and
>(censored) dogs, you can...
>Makes sense(!?!?!?)

gas bottle have you kileld the person respoibsible yet?
They inspired, they perspired, they fired, they came and went -- a ball of confusion, a demented fired explosion of righteousness and then they fucked right off...
OK, that's not me, it's John Robb talking about his own band, but it seemed vaguely appropriate somehow. I've not said much here, and I disagreed with some of what the Corpses did and some of what they said, but I'm 100% behind what they meant. SOTCAA was, as everybody reading this knows, an astonishing collection of research and a challenge to everybody's ideas. It also succeeded in spawning a collection of forumgoers who have spoken more concentrated sense in the space of a few months than you generally get in the average aeon. Who knows -- the future of comedy may have been changed already...
"It also succeeded in spawning a collection of forumgoers..."
Er, I was spawned a few years earlier by my parents. Can't speak for the others though.

Naw, your parents ahd nothing to do with spawning me.
Boh!

Or, They inspired, they perspired, they fired, they came and went -- a ball of confusion, a demented fired explosion of *self*-righteousness and then they fucked right off, in the case of some of the contributors, eh Jon?
Dunno what you're on about.
Oh no. Does this mean the mainstream comedians win? Does this certify comedy is in fact dead and none of the corpses are elligable for a body frisk?
In such a time of web disaster I can't help but think this however an excellent time to plug my website devoted to Russell Peters (http://www.stas.net/6/russell/). Remember good can always come from bad.
How? Anyway, RP was one of the people slagged off by The Corpses, so he's already a winner in this situation.
That's it Jon you lead the campaign of consolation! Thanks for the reason to be joyous Jon.

This goes for me too. I have only seemed to post moaning messages, but I've enjoyed having something to moan about. I don't always agree with the standpoint of the corpses, but they believe in what they're doing and I do think that they raise very valid points. Maybe if they stuck to their beliefs and ideas rather than launching (maybe unintentionally) personal attacks they'd still be here?
Sorruy Rob, you did ask for no speculation. Whatever the problem is though I hope it gets sorted :o)
Perhaps we've all learned something here today...something that will ultimately make us better people. And for that we should be thankful. Godbless.
Is there any chance that all of the above meant I couldn't access the Forum from my work computer yesterday for some reason?
I'm on my boyf's laptop at the mo', after being frustrated yesterday.
>I'm on my boyf's laptop at the mo', after being frustrated yesterday.
fnarr
Yes, and that happens to be true in the single and double entendre sense. However, nobody's answered my question.
It was OK yesterday
RB - you've probably bookmarked the corpses address at work, as opposed to the actual forum address, which is mudhole.spodnet.uk.com/~frogger/newtv/
Although, if you're back at work now you probably can't see this... errrr....
Back at work, back online. Must have been a one-off, or a several-off. Thanks for the reply.
