*falls off chair laughing*
Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear oh dear....
Graham Beecroft, Radio Merseyside, 15/4/89 - shortly after 3pm at Hillsborough...
[paraphrasing]
"I'm afraid to report there's trouble here... drunken hooligans invading the pitch - they're so far gone, many of them can hardly stand up... it's a disgrace"
Amazingly, he kept his job. I bet he has trouble sleeping though...
Trying to link the weather to 'The Final Day: Buddy Holly' an ITV twat, er, announcer said: "When there werer bad weather conditions when Buddy Holly went on his final fight, next".
(paraphrasing)
According to Private Eye, someone once interviewing David Blunkett kept demanding to know if he'd "seen" something or other.
I seem to remember one of the teaching unions attacking Blunkett for his 'lack of vision'
>According to Private Eye, someone once interviewing David Blunkett kept demanding to know if he'd "seen" something or other.
I saw the incident - it was a programme presented by Justin Webb (may have been a brekkie news special). I think there was some problem with the link and Blunket was asked 'Can you see us?' I think he menat to say 'Can you hear us?'.
It was a simple mistake and Private Eye made a bit much out of it as is often their way.
"The problem with deaf blind people is that they fall between two stools" is one that I heard.
And of course, let's not forget Sue Lawley's sadly unforgettable opener to Kenny Everett on Desert Island Discs in September 1993, just 18 months before his death:
SL: In fact you've had the HIV virus for some time now haven't you?
KE: That's right, Sue. (To listeners) Hello, by the way.
*short pause*
Sue: "Let's have the next piece of music."
>I SWEAR THAT THE FOLLOWING WAS TRUE:
In the week following Frank Sinatra's death, a local station (Classic Gold 828) ran a trailer stating that there would be no tributes, bad taste jokes, etc;
After one such trailer, they played *New York, New York* First line of song is: *I'm leaving town today....*
