who was sponsered by legal & general weather Posted Thu Jun 29 12:57:47 BST 2000 by johnny banana

I know this was back in 1989 but were all regions sponsered by them. I know Anglia, TVS, Ulster & Border used it & LWT did but with a diffrent sound track but does anyone know whoelse did?

Granada is now sponsored by StayBrite windows - and the man in the ident is possibly the most annoying individual ever to disgrace the small screen.

How did this come about, the sponsoring of several stations? Did L&G go to each one in turn and say 'Look, can we sponor your weather, and we'll do the graphics for you as well' or what?

Anglia kept L&G into 1993 at least, whilst Ulster and Border dropped theirs on 31st December. Ulster didn't have any other sponsorship lined up, so they used a several year-old non-sponsored weather thing, before getting Sponsorship from Belfast International Airport (which is nowhere near Belfast, but that's another story...).

They then had to amend this when they changed from Ulster Television to plain old UTV.

For a good number of years now, it has been Progressive, a local building society.

Border is, I think, sponsored by the Sellafield visitors' Centre.

The HTV weather is the best - always updated graphics and changing sponsorship currently Swalec. With amazing presenters Dilwyn Young Jones and the new super tasty Joanna Rice - look out for Joanna as she has been asked to cover up now as she was showing toooooo much flesh during the forecast!!!! Start tuning your aerials into HTV West ..now!

Yorkshire was also sponsored by Legal & General.
For at least 5 years they have been sponsored by Yorkshire Electricity, and have had the weather titles changed at least 4 times

Grampian Weather was sponsored by L&G too in the early 1990s. Everyone seems to forget poor old Grampian.

LWT lost its sponser at the weekend and went back to them compass unsponsered ones.

Also this is LWT's third new ident since Nov 1999 is this a case of Tyne Tees copycating like they did with three new ones between 1991-1992 before changing the initials

Tyne Tees didn't realy change their logo that much during that period. They changed the background for each of the TV Seasons for a year, they kept the logo and animation the same

Anglia were sponsored by L&G and are currently sponsored by Sun Life. The title sequences are animated in the standard yellow & blue of Anglia, on a weather related theme into the Sun Life logo. These include:
>Wet dog shakes off water>logo
>Weather house, figure rotates out smiling>logo
>Kid jumps into puddle, splash>logo
>Pot plant sunflower puts on sunglasses>logo
>Birds fly through clearing clouds>logo
>Weather vane spinning in breeze>logo

I'm not too sure if that is all of them. I think there is a snowman sequence, as it follows the idea of the Network Forecast in that the sequence reflects the weather.
Anglia has its own format & presenters for the weather.

>Other info: BBC East now have the BBC generic format for local news programmes and the weather.
>Anglia weather forecast is provided by VSI Europe - not the Met Office. Rumour was that this was a response to the closure of the Norwich weather centre some time ago.

Carlton are currently sponsored by Amerada Energy.
LWT have no forecast sponsor at the moment. Although I have seen them sponsored by SeaFrance and SEEBoard.
>Other info: Both London stations use the ITV national/network format (but not titles) and presenters.

Meridian used Sun Life for ages (including exactly the same titles) and also have their weather provided by WSI. Their weather is now sponsored by Sea France. In the past, they also used The Suite Shop (now owned by Landmark) and the decidedly dodgy graphics used for the title sequence.
