Paul Merton : The Series
Posted Tue May 9 18:46:34 BST 2000 by Sprassley Colin Beethoven
Having just watched the first series of this on Paramount (i've got the second on video and watched it so many times now i can quote most of the sketches), i wonder why most of the press feel the need to slate the two series so much. I've always found Merton's deadpan and surreal style very funny, especially when matched with other comedy performers who occasionally pop up over the course of the series.
Does anybody else like it? Or is it just me?

hmm so-so
i cant remember being 'grabbed' by it, i havent seen it since the first series though. all i can remember is a half dolphin sketch.
I think he's much more suited to 'have i got news'

I thought it was brilliant. The Surrealness of it all.

I seem to remember liking it, but the only sketch I can recall was about a betting shop, and Paul betting on being dead in 100 years time.
Or something like that.

he's hilarious
he should be seen more on tv he is about the only comedian that doesn't use swearing (only on a very rare occasion) & is much funnier
the BBC should give him his own talk show he was funny on PARKINSON of what I saw

I can remember very little of it... i do know that the dolphins kept popping up, after a while they did amuse. Although deadpan is maybe an odd way to describe it, Merton isn't deadpan in the way, say, Jack Dee (may the lord have mercy on me for mentioning his name!) is deadpan. For instance, Merton doesn't look like he's been dead for a week.
