Peter Baynham and Julian Dutton’s underrated gem.

1. For an excellent illustration of how ridiculous PRS problems can be when it comes to releasing comedy shows commercially, look no further than The Harpoon, a Radio 4 show based around the idea of an antiquated action comic which used old orchestral tapes for its more dramatic moments. Peter Baynham explained that they wanted to bring out a tape of the Harpoon but to get clearance would have meant ‘tracking down every single timpani player from fucking 1930s orchestras.’

Subsequent series of The Harpoon utilised library music as much as possible to avoid such problems but to date nothing from the series has been released.
