The rules are very simple and so are you. Listed below are a series of banal, ill-informed, tedious, ignorant and WRONG opinions about the comedy world. But if you can come up with a 1,000-word essay, arguing - via the use of SPECIFIC examples - why the below statements are actually correct, you could win a video of your choice from the SOTCAA archives. So have a go - remember, you have to AGREE with one of the following statements, and put forward your case using (a) actual reason and (b) loads of quotations to back up your theories. This is your chance to prove to the Corpses that they’re the ones who’ve missed the point...

Choose from the following...

1. Only about 20% of Monty Python was any good, when you look at it.

2. Love Thy Neighbour was racist, and it’s a good thing it’ll never be repeated.

3. Smack The Pony should really ditch those comedy songs. (Optional course: 3a. In fact, all comedy songs are rubbish, let’s face it...except Bill Bailey)

4. David Baddiel is a lairy, talent-free laddish embarrassment...and no, I’m not going to listen to your Mary Whitehouse Experience radio tapes to convince me otherwise, my mind’s made up thank you very much. La la, I can’t hear you, etc.

5. Ditto Punt & Dennis.

6. American sitcoms are better than British ones. (Optional element: Seinfeld is a masterpiece)

7. I’m Alan Partridge was better than Knowing Me Knowing You .

8. Jam was great. (Not open to Jason Hazeley, last year’s winner)

9. Field removed video? Looks alright to me.

10. The 11 O’Clock Show might be alright now that Iain Lee’s left.

11. Al Murray is a godsend.

12. Absolutely wasn’t a particularly important comedy show.

13. The Boosh are brilliant.

14. Comedy is better if it’s dark.

15. I want to hear Eddie Izzard’s real-life opinions. They’re really interesting.

16. TV Go Home is a right laugh.

17. Everything will be really great once Jane Root resigns.

18. No, I don’t think A Fish Called Wanda is over-rated. Why, do you?

19. Dead Ringers is original and very funny. More please, BBC.

20. A lot of comedy has dated, when you look at it.

21. The closing scene of Blackadder Goes Forth was very moving, and was a genre-defining moment in British television. PS, I am stupid and need educating. When’s Time Gentlemen Please on?

22. The Corpses are really arrogant. I mean, I like a lot of the site - particularly the bits I agree with. But when you start attacking beliefs I’ve been told to accept in order to get ahead in the media and secure false friendships, well that’s when you really annoy me. After all, comedy’s subjective isn’t it? And who’s to say what’s funny or not funny? Come on, guys. I think more comedians should be on the forum, actually - after all, they don’t get a chance to answer back most of the time. And when was the last time either of the Corpses wrote a hit Channel 4 sitcom, like my friends Dylan Moran and Simon Pegg? I would have thought...(contd. spacedout@useless)
