Now for the bad news. In replacing Page 15 with a note explaining that Pages 16 to 29 were to be omitted, the first page of the missing sequence was cast away forever, losing us the opportunity to review Shots 60 and 61 (and the first part of Shot 62) in the process. As such there's no way of telling how the previous concert sequence would have linked to what follows, or indeed how the missing scene actually begins.

There are no 'Revised' or 'Added' pages throughout the whole sequence, so it's probably safe to assume that the whole thing was present in the original 'first draft' of December 1967.

Despite the missing page, we can at least set the scene for you. As we join the action, it's pretty clear that:

a) The Monkees find themselves in Japan.
b) They have just encountered a woman called Toshiko.
c) Toshiko speaks no English.
d) She is terribly distressed about something.

Now read on (see you in fourteen pages time)...

	#8888 16 62 CONTINUED: 62 MICKY What for?? Show her we're friendly?? Meanwhile she's running and screaming in the weeds. They sit. She passes through them cautiously. Then, she continues running about ten feet. She turns around abruptly and runs back to where Davy is seated...falls to her knees and breaks up completely.                   TOSHIKO (IN JAPANESE) Excuse me. I did not trust you. I am running from the castle. Soldiers pursue. Help me...please. During this, the Monkees have risen. Except Peter. DAVY What do you make of it? MIKE She's obviously Japanese.                       PETER (IN JAPANESE) Excuse me...we are Americans. What is it that...uh...bothers you?         (in English) What's up? Davy tries to help her get up. She remains, eyes to the ground...telling her story. TOSHIKO (IN JAPANESE) Soldiers come. Capture my father. The vassal, Godzilla... PETER (IN ENGLISH) Soldiers come. Capture my father. The vassal, Godzilla... DAVY, MIKE, MICKY Godzilla?!? The three of them take off in different directions...banging into each other. TOSHIKO (IN JAPANESE) This evil man, Godzilla PETER (IN ENGLISH) This evil man, Godzilla... It's a man, fellas... Other Monkees settle down to listen. TOSHIKO (IN JAPANESE) Has taken over our house... and has my father prisoner... They plan on...         (she bursts out crying) PETER (IN ENGLISH) He's taken over our house and has her father prisoner...They plan on...         (Peter bursts out crying)

	#8888 17 63 ANGLE Micky and Mike begin to comfort Peter who is totally carried away in the same fashion as the girl. 63 MICKY AND MIKE Easy. Take it easy. It's going to be all right. DAVY They're going to kill your father. That's awful. MIKE Careful now, Davy. No snap decisions. DAVY What do you mean? MIKE Well, I mean, like we don't really know her father. DAVY What's that got to do with it? Don't worry. We'll help. MIKE You made a snap decision. MICKY Yeah and how about Peter. He's a complete slobbering dumb-dumb. MIKE It may take him...oh, two, three weeks in the mountains to recover. DAVY Listen fellas...we can't just pass on by this poor girl, like nothing happened. MICKY We know, we know, but why can't we just pass the girl by like nothing's happened? Ever ask yourself that? DAVY Many times. MIKE         (with a flourish) Okay, then... He crosses and bows to the girl.

	#8888 18 63 CONTINUED 63 MIKE         (continuing) Mike! TOSHIKO         (bowing) Toshiko. PETER         (like her, bowing) Toshiko. Micky pokes him. MICKY Your name! PETER         (bowing) Oh. Peter. MICKY         (bowing) Micky. DAVY Davy. Toshiko utters a Japanese titter, embarrassed, behind her hand, because she loves him. TOSHIKO Davy. DAVY Now, which way do we go? She points off but as they start to move, 50 Japanese WARRIORS appear...simultaneously from behind trees. MIKE Let's take the long way round... They turn and another 50 appear. MICKY What a place for a hot dog stand. CUT TO: INT. CELL - DAY 64 It is an impregnable, dark, dark dungeon. The CAMERA SLOWLY MOVES past the Monkees, who are shackled to the wall. 64

	#8888 19 64 CONTINUED 64 Stopping on Mike. MIKE O.K. fellas...now here's my plan. CUT TO: INT. MEETING ROOM - DAY 65 SLIDING DOOR It snaps open. The Monkees are pushed in...land on tatami floor of a large room. 65 66 ANGLE - GODZILLA A fierce looking Samurai. Behind him sit 20 MEN, angling out behind him like a pyramid...throughout this scene, every time GODZILLA moves, the 20 men move in unison. 66 GODZILLA         (all mean) Who are you? MIKE Travelling salesmen. GODZILLA Please to give proof. MICKY When wine, women and song are too much, give up song. Monkees break up. Japanese do not. PETER You never know how a girl will turn out 'till her folks turn in. A loser. DAVY Pierre, the passionate masseur was fired when he rubbed a lady client up the wrong way. Toast. MIKE A man has reached old age when he can't take "yes" for an answer.

	#8888 20 66 CONTINUED: 66 One soldier smiles faintly and is instantly skewered by Godzilla...without so much as a look. The soldier remains seated and smiling throughout the scene. GODZILLA What do you sell? Mike rises and moves toward the trunk, all eyes but one follow him. MIKE If you will allow me, I'll show you our line, so to speak. Godzilla nods his assent and Mike opens the trunk and takes a pair of pajamas, which he holds up. MIKE Here is... GODZILLA Umph? MIKE For sleepy-bye... GODZILLA Sleepy-bye?? Mike seeing pajamas are getting it, throws them to Micky, dives into the trunk and comes up with... MIKE Here's a dandy little item... ear muffs. Mike puts them on to demonstrate GODZILLA Give me. Mike doesn't hear. GODZILLA         (continuing) Give!! DAVY Uh...Mike...he wants...wants... Mike looks at him blankly. MIKE Not much use around here actually.

	#8888 21 66 CONTINUED:     (2) 66 Two soldiers move swiftly. Grab Mike by the ankles and render him upside down. Godzilla grabs the earmuffs as Mike's head swings by. He puts them on. Smiles. All soldiers smile. Mike is still upside down...swinging forward and backward. GODZILLA Ha...ha...travelling salesmen. Godzilla stands. All warriors stand. Mike is set right side up. Godzilla exits. All exit. Monkees gather around Mike. DAVY, PETER, MICKY Hey Mike -- you did OK. I think we convinced him...etc. 67 ANGLE Monkees turn to see one soldier, still sitting, smile on his face. Dead. He topples. 67 CUT TO: INT. BATH - NIGHT 68 The Monkees are sitting in steaming hot water. GEISHA GIRLS bathe them, all a-giggle. Peter floats on his back, spitting water, etc. 68 DAVY Hey, listen you guys. Remember why we came here? MIKE I remember. PETER I remember. MICKY I remember. DAVY O.K. then. Pass the soap.. CUT TO: INT. LARGE ROOM - NIGHT 69 The girls are entertaining the Monkees, singing, dancing toasting with Sake. Monkees now in Japanese kimonos. As girl with classical high pitched voice finishes singing... Over their applause. 69

	#8888 22 69 CONTINUED: 69 DAVY I'm gonna take a look around. MONKEES OK babe...see ya! He opens sliding door. A face appears, hideous WARRIOR. Door slams on Davy's nose. He takes a few steps back in room. MONKEES Hey, babe. What'd you find? DAVY Me nose has been damaged. MIKE         (locked in drink clasp) Yes it has. Have a snort. Davy now takes some sake and drinks it down. Then passes out. Girls shriek. Doors fly open. GUARD appears. GEISHA         (to Guard) Davy...too much sake. Micky and Mike pick Davy up. Guard stiffens as they approach. MIKE         (gassed) Back, back! I say...man with a damaged proboscus here, you fool. Guard pushes Mike and Micky back. Allows Davy to pass. INT. CORRIDOR - DAY 70 SERIES OF CUTS Davy slightly stoned, wandering around corridors of house. Finally he sees room outside of which another GUARD sits. Davy smiles. 70 DAVY Uh...good evening... GUARD         (jumps up) Hi! DAVY Hi...

	#8888 23 70 CONTINUED: 70 GUARD Hi! Davy is startled at the shouting. He decides on another approach. He bows. The guard bows. Seesaw style. Davy bows. The guard bows. Davy is slow on the rhythm. His head bangs into the guard's. And he's out! CUT TO: EXT. COURT - DAY 71 Godzilla is training his men. All kinds of demonstrations of Bundo, Karate, Judo, Swordsmanship, etc. The Monkees are watching, Godzilla deftly handles several men in a sword duel and with a flourish, puts sword in scabbard and turns to Monkees. 71 GODZILLA So salesmen. You go today. MIKE Oh, that's all right... We're in no hurry. 72 DAVY'S POV ZOOM across the court - Davy sees Toshiko sitting in a room... Just before sliding door closes... 72 DAVY Say, isn't that the girl... GODZILLA Do not trouble yourself over women. This (meaning sword) is friend enough. MIKE         (sotto voce to Micky) He's hung on swords. MICKY How's about teach us some of that stuff - we're not due back in Missouri 'til the weekend. PETER Missouri? Mike nudges Peter. MIKE Yeah, time we learned how to defend ourselves.

	#8888 24 72 CONTINUED: 72 Godzilla shakes his head dubiously. Davy has trunk open. DAVY Tell you what - you can have all our stuff in the trunk... shaving mugs, mustard plaster, earmuffs... Davy throws him earmuffs, Godzilla smiles...then laughs hysterically. Walks away, leaving Monkees confused. Suddenly Godzilla spins, flourishes sword, returns it to scabbard. MIKE Swords and earmuffs... Can't figure 'em... Godzilla can't hear a thing. INT. HOUSE - DAY 73 Toshiko sits a mute captive in a small room. She is bound in rope. CAMERA TRAVELS past partition to next room. Her FATHER, a very old sagging-jawed man, funny looking shogen is also tied up. 73                     TOSHIKO (IN JAPANESE) Papa...papa?                      PAPA (IN JAPANESE) Be brave my child. CUT TO: 74 TRAINING SCENES - VISUAL COMEDY Davy learns swordsmanship 74 75 ANGLE - PETER Peter learning Judo. 75 76 ANGLE - MICKY Micky learning karate. 76 77 ANGLE - MIKE Mike learning archery. During the above, Davy slips away. Goes under the building which is typically raised above the ground. CAMERA TRAVELS laterally as he tries to find Toshiko. Finally he pops up the tatami flooring. 77

	#8888 25 INT. ROOM - DAY 78 Wrong room. Davy comes into room and here guards are getting drunk. As one lifts sake -- the whole tatami mat goes up. Davy, with mat balanced on his head, can see guards folded knees. He slowly lowers his head. 78 CUT TO: 79 PAPA'S ROOM Davy's head comes up through the floor. Papa stares at mat as it comes up. Then as Davy is eye level with him, papa faints dead away. 79 CUT TO: 80 UNDER HOUSE Davy enters Toshiko's room...replaces mat. He starts to untie her. 80 DAVY Come on. We're leaving. TOSHIKO We cannot. DAVY Come on...the guys are waiting. TOSHIKO No!! In Japanese, Toshiko is protesting and crying with her head at ground. DAVY Don't worry...we can crawl under.                      TOSHIKO (IN JAPANESE)         (sobbing at length) No! Davy pulls out conversation book. DAVY Wait a minute. Slower, ah...I see... You...cannot...come...into...room with...shoes...on. Oh, sorry about that...come on now! And he pulls her sobbing from the room. 81 BELOW They crouch under the house. Davy whistles to Monkees. 81 CUT TO:

	#8888 26 82 ANGLE - MONKEES Mike, Peter and Micky are being attacked (practice) by three hulking warriors. Just as the back up to the wall of the court, they stop pursuers. Japanese look confused. Three roundhouses are let fly. the pursuers go down. They scale the wall. 82 CUT TO: EXT. HOUSE - DAY 83 Near the weeds. As they come over the wall, Davy is already there. Toshiko is on his back. They run to the fields, Davy huffing like crazy. 83 CUT TO: EXT. WOODS - DAY 84 As they race through the trees, back to the clearing. All the while, Toshiko is screaming and beating on Davy. In a running shot, just as they enter the building: 84 DAVY         (running) Hey, Peter...what's she yelling anyway? PETER         (running) Says we have to go back. They all stop. Toshiko is still on Davy's back. (shoulders). DAVY Says what? PETER ...go back...to get her father. Davy looks up at her. DAVY Go back...to get her... MIKE Father! INT. HOUSE - DAY 85 Godzilla and his men are running frantically through corridors. They fly past guard of a previous night - open door to Toshiko's room. 85

	#8888 27 INT. ROOM - DAY 86 As the door slides open. Empty. 86 INT. CORRIDOR - DAY 87 87                    GODZILLA (IN JAPANESE) Gone!                   GUARD (IN JAPANESE) But how? Godzilla stabs him to death. Runs down corridor, sword out, flings open papa's door and into room. INT. PAPA ROOM - DAY 88 Godzilla rushes in, sword out. CAMERA BEHIND Papa. Sword goes right to point of Papa's neck. 88 GODZILLA         (to men behind him) Find them! 89 OMIT 89 CUT TO: EXT. WOODS - DAY 90 The Monkees are, as they say, up a tree 90 MIKE ...before they find us... Pull back to see the Monkees in different branches. Toshiko is in the field beyond...a decoy. And a band of 20 soldiers is searching. they see her. Halt! They run wildly for the clearing. 91 C.U. Only it's Micky, who now runs in her kimono, drawing the troops. Micky yells in high pitched voice. As the troops go under a tree, Monkees swing out - land on three of them. Do them in. 91 92 TROOPS Running, stop to look around. Leader turns, all men turn. 92 93 REVERSE ANGLE Mike, Peter and Davy are all in warrior clothes. They point 93

	#8888 28 93 CONTINUED: 93 to Toshiko, her back is seen in the distance. They start running towards her. 94 ANGLE Troops running to CAMERA. Peter, Davy and Mike are slowing down as the others pass by the CAMERA. 94 95 REVERSE They are almost on Micky, who now gets up from mock fatigue and sticks his fingers in his ears and his tongue out. The Japanese all stop, startled. They all look backwards, just in time to see: 95 96 ANGLE - MIKE, DAVY AND PETER with a large pole in their hands, bearing down on them. Micky bops them from behind, running down the length of the pole. 96 97 ANGLE - HUGE TREE Toshiko, dressed as Micky, screams. 97 98 ANGLE - NEW SOLDIERS - 50 As they swarm around the tree, they start climbing up. She climbs higher. All of them go up. She goes higher. They go higher. 98 99 BOTTOM OF TREE In a nonchalant pose, Mike and Peter are two men sawing tree. 99 100 ANOTHER TREE - DAVY Tarzan style, swoops across and picks up Toshiko. He lands on the ground. 100 101 FIRST TREE Japanese look down just as the tree is sawed. They all go down with a crash. Peter and Micky and Mike nonchantly [sic] bop them on heads with prop hammers. The Monkees survey the troops. Toshiko is crying. 101 MIKE Don't say it. You're Homesick. CUT TO:
